People urged to use local coronavirus testing system appropriately
Residents of Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire are being reassured there are enough local coronavirus tests to go around, providing that people use the testing system appropriately.
In recent weeks, demand for testing has risen rapidly across the country, with much of the new demand coming from those without coronavirus symptoms.
Currently, testing for Covid-19 is strictly reserved for any person who displays one or more of the following symptoms:
- High temperature
- New and persistent cough
- Loss of, or a change to, taste and/or smell
Any person not displaying these symptoms should not be requesting a test, as doing so could mean somebody with symptoms is unable to receive their essential test in a timely manner.
To request a coronavirus test, use the online portal by clicking here, or call 119.
Tests cannot be booked through the NHS 111 system, nor can tests be requested in person at a GP practice, pharmacy or hospital.
Further information about testing is available online at www.nhs.uk.
