Christopher Foster

BSW, Dorset and Somerset ICBs’ Joint Non-Executive Director

Christopher Foster was Bishop of Portsmouth and a Lord Spiritual until stepping down in May 2021. Aside from 40 years of ordained ministry, Christopher also has experience of working as an academic economist and of serving as a non-exec in higher education. He led the Diocese of Portsmouth in national ground-breaking strategic restructuring and reorganisation of parish structures through a challenging process of change and transformation. In membership and leadership of the national church, he also chaired the national HR committee and was a member of the standing commission on national structures.

As a member of the House of Lords, he frequently spoke on matters of inequality and fair provision, and his wide experience of diverse people and communities, rural, coastal and urban, left behind or disadvantaged as well as thriving socially and financially, informs his commitment to full and just access to healthcare and wellbeing for everyone.

Christopher, who lives in Somerset, is also a board member and trustee of the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, chairing its ethics committee, its people and culture committee, and serving as patient experience lead.
