The countdown to the opening of the new Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre is officially on, with construction of the £16 million site having reached its highest point.

Representatives from Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board marked the occasion on the recently installed roof, and were joined by the Mayor of Trowbridge, along with a number of NHS colleagues who will soon call the new centre home.

Also in attendance at the formal topping out ceremony were officials from NHS Property Services and Wiltshire Council, both of whom have contributed to the funding of state-of-the-art facility.

Caroline Holmes, Interim Executive Lead for Cancer, Planned Care and Community, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, gave a rooftop speech to thank those who had come along for bringing the new centre to life.

She said: “When the very first spades went in the ground, it was difficult to picture how a brand new health and care facility could emerge from what was essentially a very muddy field.

“Yet, here we are. The building work is well under way, the finish line is firmly in sight and local people can now see their new integrated care centre really begin to take shape.

“This new centre is set to be a flagship location for local health and care, with teams from many different organisations, including HCRG Care Group, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership and the Royal United Hospital, working together under one roof to help give patients a smoother, more joined-up experience.”

Cllr Clare Cape, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Co-ordination with the NHS, said: “I was delighted to attend this event and see firsthand the progress being made in delivering vital health facilities for our residents.

“By strategically allocating funds from the Wiltshire Community Infrastructure Levy, we’re ensuring that contributions from local developments are directly reinvested into projects that make a meaningful and lasting difference in our communities.”

Construction work on the new integrated care centre, which when complete will be one of the country’s first completely self-sufficient NHS buildings, is expected to finish before the end of the year, with the doors opening to patients in early 2026

Once fully open, the centre will become the new location for all of the health and care services, including the minor injury unit and X-ray department, that are currently based within the nearby Trowbridge Community Hospital.

This means that patients will be able to continue accessing the same range of services as before, but in an ultra-modern health and care environment that is truly reflective of a 21st century NHS.

Andrew Strange, Estates Strategy Lead for NHS Property Services in the South, said: “It’s fantastic that this exciting project has reached this pivotal milestone.

“We are very pleased to have enabled the delivery of this super integrated care centre which we know will enable our NHS colleagues, across different specialisms, to work more collaboratively and deliver excellent care to patients in a fantastic, state of the art environment at the heart of the community.”

Local people and communities can find out more about the new integrated care centre through a series of drop-in sessions which are being held in popular locations in and around Trowbridge throughout the duration of the site’s construction.

The next session will take place between 2.30pm and 6.30pm on Thursday 26 June at Trowbridge Sports Centre, which is located on Frome Road.
