Brand-new north Swindon GP practice ready to welcome patients
A brand-new GP practice in the north of Swindon is getting ready to welcome its very first patients.
Tadpole Surgery, located on the northern edge of the town in the newly developed Tadpole Garden Village, will open its doors on Monday 16 May following a year-long construction project.
The new practice, which is able to register up to 8,500 patients, will offer a more local GP service to people living in one of the fastest growing areas of Swindon.
Eleven clinicians, as well as eight administrative staff, will be based at the new site, which will join the four other existing Swindon surgeries – Highworth, Taw Hill, Blunsdon and Hermitage – that make up the Westrop Medical Practice family.
Dr Amanda Webb, BSW CCG Clinical Chair for Swindon, said: “For some time now, families living in this part of Swindon have called for a GP practice in their own community, especially in light of the local population growing, and continuing to do so, at a significant pace.
“Delivering a new GP surgery is never straightforward, and the journey to get to this point has had many twists and turns, but it feels very positive to know that we are now within touching distance of opening the doors to our very first patients.
“Tadpole Garden Village is an area that thrives on community values, and it is these same principles that are at the heart of everything we do as healthcare professionals, so I’m absolutely certain this new surgery will be warmly welcomed by all who use it.”
Around 2,500 people have already registered as patients of the practice, and those who would like to do the same can sign up in person at Taw Hill Surgery or online via the Westrop Medical Practice website.
People wishing to join the surgery must live in Tadpole Garden Village, or the immediate surrounding areas of St Andrews Ridge and Abbey Farm.
Ahead of the first in-person appointments taking place next week, Tadpole Surgery will be officially opened by the Member of Parliament for North Swindon, Justin Tomlinson.
He said: “The opening of the much-anticipated Tadpole Surgery by the Westrop Medical Practice team is a huge boost for the local community.
“I have worked closely with the team throughout the process to make sure this fantastic new facility has been delivered.
“Securing additional capacity and wider health services will be very much welcomed by fellow local residents, and I wish the new team the best for their opening.”
